Reclaim runs entirely on your Mac. It scans your disk read-only to find storage you can recover, and everything it learns about your files stays on your device. Reclaim has no account, no cloud, no analytics, and no tracking. Nothing about your files, folders, or storage is ever uploaded to us — because there is no "us" server for it to go to.
By default, Reclaim makes only one kind of network request, and it contains no personal data:
Update checks. Reclaim checks GitHub for a newer release and downloads updates from there. These requests carry no information about your files, your disk, or your device.
Reclaim includes an optional feature that can explain a finding in plain language — "what is this, and is it safe to delete?" It is off unless you turn it on by adding your own API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google.
When you do:
Your key stays on your Mac. It is stored locally in the macOS Keychain and is never sent to us.
Requests go straight to the provider you chose. When you click the ✨ button on a specific item, Reclaim sends details about that item (such as its name, path, size, type, and safety tier) and your question directly to your chosen provider, authenticated with your key. That exchange is governed by that provider's privacy policy (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google). Reclaim never routes these requests through a server of ours, and we never see your key, your questions, or the responses.
If you never add a key, this feature simply stays dormant and no such requests are ever made.
When you choose to clean something, Reclaim moves it to a reversible
quarantine on your own Mac (under ~/.reclaim/quarantine) rather
than deleting it outright, so you can restore it until you purge. All of
this happens locally. No file content, and no list of what you cleaned, is
ever transmitted anywhere.
Basic scanning works with no special access. Deeper scanning — for example Messages attachments or app containers — uses macOS Full Disk Access, which you grant (and can revoke) yourself in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Reclaim explains exactly when it's needed and takes you to the right pane. It is entirely optional.
reclaimac.com is a static site served by Cloudflare. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
